The county of Środa Śląska is situated in the central part of Lower Silesia, 30 km west of its capital – Wrocław. On the north-side it borders with Trzebnica and Wołów Counties, on the westside with Legnica and Jawor Counties, on the south-side with Świdnica County. Its eastern neighbours are: Grodzki, Wrocław and the Land of Wrocław Counties. In the near neighbourhood area of the county there are also two other large town agglomerations: Legnica and Lubin.
The area of the county includes the central Part of the Silesia Lowland, and more exactly its three physically geographic mezzo-regions: the Valley of Odra, Średzka Height and the Plain of Kostomłoty. Such placing causes that the county is located in two different landscaping areas. Lying in the center of the region Średzka Height is lightly hilly and has no forests. Its prominences are typical „morena hills”, which are covered with less-rocks. The adjacent flat-height called the Plain of Kostomłoty has similar landscaping character. The Valley of Odra, which is located in the north-side of the region includes mostly sandy hills and plais cut with the valleys of old rivers – the peat drops with the compilation of forests and reeds has grown there. The sanctuary of nature - „Zabór” - was made here in 1959 thanks to the large degree of naturalness of forests.
